Join a naturalist led hike through some of Alabama's unique habitats, spend an evening catching frogs or stargazing, or learn printmaking or basket weaving. JSU Field Schools offers something for everyone.

Delve into Nature

The Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge protects the last remaining old growth stands and the best remaining mountain longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) forests in the Southeast. The 9,000-acre mountain refuge contains beautiful vistas and a rugged landscape of unfragmented forests.

Hiking Trails

The Pinhoti Trail System includes more than 100 miles of hiking trails that runs from Piedmont, its northern terminus, to a point south of Talladega. Visit the Talladega National Forest website to learn more about the Pinhoti  Trail.

Bicycle Trails

The Chief Ladiga Trail is Alabama’s first extended rails-to-trails project. It wanders 33 miles through the countryside of Calhoun and Cleburne counties and it connects the municipalities of Piedmont, Jacksonville, Weaver and Anniston.

The Berman Museum exhibits over 3,000 objects related to world history in five galleries. The collection was that of Farley L. and Germaine K. Berman, both who served in counterintelligence during World War II. They met in North Africa and traveled the world collecting rare and unusual artifacts for more than seventy years.
