Newsletter - 2009 Concert #3

Classics and Cannons Under the Stars
cannonA much anticipated tradition at Music at McClellan is our season finale. Join Conductor Christopher Confessore and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for music by Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Richard Rogers' Sound of Music, and John Williams' Adventures on Earth from the movie E.T.

The second half of the concert continues on a more traditional theme with music from Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, Franz Lehar's Gold and Silver Waltz and the much anticipated 1812 Overture. In the tradition of Tchaikovsky’s original performances, our cannons are not electronically timed, but manually operated. Civil war era cannon from Cherokee Artillery, Jeff Davis Artillery and Marshall's Artillery will be joined by the howitzers of the Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center.

This is the concert that fires the senses. With the thunderous boom of the cannon, the muzzle flashes lighting the night sky and the smell of gun powder on the evening breeze as accompaniment to the great orchestra Alabama has to offer, this evening promises to be memorable.
