Newsletter - 2008 Concert #4

Classics Under the Stars

A much anticipated tradition of Music at McClellan is our season finale. Join Conductor Christopher Confessore and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for the Hungarian Dances, the Emperor Waltzes, and many other works by Liszt, Grieg, and others. Our program ends this season with three works by Tchaikovsky, including the much anticipated 1812 Overture. And, in the tradition of Tchaikovsky's original performances, our cannons are not electronically timed, but manually operated.

This is the concert that fires the senses. With the thunderous boom of the cannon, the muzzle flashes lighting the night sky and the smell of gun powder on the evening breeze as accompaniment to the greatest orchestra Alabama has to offer, this evening promises to be memorable.

Concert Events

Civil War Reenactors from around the south will be on hand early to answer your questions, share a little history, and swap stories. It is a great time to get to know more about the events and equipment that shaped our past.

Strolling among the picnickers before the concert will be a Music at McClellan favorite, Jim Marsh, banjo player and singer for the group Distant Cousins.

Picnic Options
Whether your picnic consists of an elaborate spread or a burger from the concession stand, picnics are a well established tradition at Music at McClellan. Check out the picnic tips on the website or visit any of our vendors The 19th Hole at Cane Creek (www.canecreekgolf.com) will offer box dinners with concert-goers in mind. They will be joined on site by JD Concessioners.
